E Math C5 to A1

A Math  F9 to A1

Good School Mentee Tan Yi Feng Eason.jpeg

Since my Primary school days, Math has always been my strongest and favourite subject, but things started to take a toll ever since I embarked on taking up Additional Mathematics in Secondary 3. F9s after F9s and ever since then, math became pointless and a hassle. Not paying attention in math class and constantly not completing math homework assigned to me became a habit. Fast forward a year into Secondary 4 and after getting the usual F9 during my first term test, I realised that I did not have much time left. I needed lots of help at the state I was in and approached Good School Learning Hub.

From the first lesson at Kovan, my tutor told me it was still possible to turn my 9 to a 1 hence I trusted him and followed everything he got me to work on. In Good School, I was taught to approach Math in a different way, and Mr Zhang was able to advise me the necessary strategies to tackle math problems with ease. Furthermore, he pays special attention to all his students and often points out our own personal topic that we would have problems in. During class, he also catches up with us and would often tell us his past time when he was a Secondary school student. This made me look forward to his lesson every week and eventually brought back the passion I had for math.

Joining Good School was probably the best decision I have made as I scored two A1s for both maths during the O'Levels. My parents called it a miracle seeing my Math standard at the start of the year, and still managing to get a double distinction in the O-Levels. To be honest, I was also surprised and for this I have to give a huge thank you to Mr Zhang and Good School Learning Hub for the support those few months. What are you waiting for, join Good School now to discover a miracle today!

My tutor, Mr Zhang's, teaching style is clear and straightforward. It allows us to understand the key concept quickly. The homework that he assigns to us every weekend is very helpful as it allows us to remember and apply the things that we have learnt in class. Usually, he would spend some time going through questions and clarifying our doubts. This ensured that our understanding of the subject is thorough so that we can build a strong foundation. His words of affirmation served as an encouragement during my O'levels. He made me believe that anything was possible. During my actual O'level examination, when I was stuck at a question, I recalled what he said to us and I tried my best to think out of the box, and think from the perspective of an examiner. In the end, I was able to solve the problem and managed to get it correct. After my exam, I was able to walk out of the hall confidently knowing that my A1 was secured. This would not have been possible without Mr Zhang!

My tutor name taught me EM and AM. Before attending Good School Kovan, my scores were B4 and E8 respectively. After attending Good School, there was a large improvement and my grades for EM and AM for O'levels were A1 and A2 respectively.

The main issue I faced before attending was definitely not knowing what were the weak points that was dragging my Secondary Math grades down. I thought math was more of a subject where you needed to be gifted in order to do well. I have never passed AM before and EM was constantly deproving in Secondary 3.

The lessons here are different from ordinary schools. Mr Zhang was able to spot my strength and weaknesses and guide me through my Mathematics journey. The numerous practices and weekly reports given, gave me a chance to evaluate my aptitude and not worry about insufficient practices to do.

I liked the slow and steady pace of the lessons as it gave me the chance to understand without feeling the stress and pressure, to fully understand in depth of specific chapters. Mr Zhang was able to make Math questions much easier to understand and do, by emphasising key words in each question. The notes he gave and pointed out, gave me an edge in answering questions by immediately knowing what techniques and methods to apply.

What I like about the centre is the clean and quiet environment to study in. The small class size makes it less competitive and it feels like a calm and soothing place to do our work.

I was able to clarify the doubts I had ASAP by using Whatsapp message, and the replies are always informative and prompt.

I would definitely recommend Good School to juniors, friends etc. because this centre is equipped with incredible and motivational tutors who are able to push you to your very best. This centre provides more than what schools can provide, the passion of teaching in the tutors.

A Math  B4 to A1

Good School Mentee Ryan Leong Math_edited.jpg

Although I had a strong interest in Mathematics in Primary school, when I transitioned into Secondary school life, Math was rather tough, especially with all the new concepts taught. Even though I must say that lower Secondary Math was not that bad, my interest in the field dwindled when A math reared its ugly head at me. With complex concepts such as binomial theorem and logarithmic functions, in addition to the fact that my school had only one teacher teaching both Maths concurrently, I simply could not keep up with the insanely fast pace at which my teacher was going at. As a result, my A math score continued to dwindle to a B4 in Secondary 4 mid-year, the lowest score I’ve ever obtained for A math ever.

Knowing that I required urgent help, me and my parents found out about Good School Learning Hub, snuggly situated in a little corner at Kovan. Being the slightly introverted type, enrolling in a new tuition center was rather nerve-wrecking, but my tutor made it welcoming for me and soon, I was on track with the class. Mr Zhang devised a unique strategy in which involved finding keywords to devise a suitable fixed strategy for question types, one that was quite simple to understand and carry out. He even developed his own worksheets in which he goes through the different bite-sized parts of each chapter so that it would be easy for us to absorb the content taught, and questions are given to increase our exposure to many question types, which in turn increases our exam readiness. At times when schools just teach you the formula and how to use it, Mr Zhang delves deeper into what the formula represents and the multiple ways of applying it to different question types, ensuring that whatever the question, we would always be ready for it during exams. Moreover, to keep lessons interesting, he shares funny life stories with us, be it related or not to A math, so as to allow us to make better decisions in life. Hence, he not only prepares us for the A math examination, but also for the future and society. He is also extremely approachable and can answer any queries round-the-clock, which was extremely helpful for me.

In the end, I ended up achieving a stellar grade of A1 within just a few months for my O'Levels, and I really have my tutor to thank for, helping me to attain this 4-grade jump. I would highly recommend Good School to others as not only does Mr Zhang give the skills to succeed in A Math through various strategies, but also in life, which became extremely resourceful to me.

For Math in general, I was never good at it. I could not understand what my teacher was teaching and was struggling a lot. Even if I asked my teachers or friends for help, I would only understand partially. I scored a C5 for both Emath and Amath.

When taking Secondary Math lessons at Good School Kovan, I was able to learn different methods which I found easier to understand. The explanation is easy to understand and remember. The lessons were fun and engaging as my tutor Mr Zhang would use videos and websites for us to understand better. The classes are in small groups; hence the teacher can focus on each person. The homework given really helped to ensure that I could do the topic. I improved 3 grades and scored a A2 for my O'level Emath and a A2 for N'level Amath.

Before joining Good School, I constantly had problems understanding and scoring for Amath. The pace in school was extremely fast for me to keep up as well. As a result, I'm always lacking behind my classmates.

At Good School Kovan, Mr Zhang is a passionate and patient teacher who helps me understand math concepts in interesting and effective ways- structure, detailed, yet straightforward. Queries can be clarified at any point of time, both during and outside of class time, and Mr Zhang is always more than happy to answer them.

Besides teaching us math, he would also teach us important life lessons as well. Nearer to O levels, Mr Zhang would give us other school papers to expose us to different type of questions, as well as to test our understanding on the topics. Overall, I have a 7 grade improvement in my 2 years in good school, and scored an a2 for Amath in Olevels. Would definitely recommend people to join Good School.

For Amath, I didnt understand what the teacher was teaching. Because of it, I could not learn anything from the Secondary Math lessons. I tried to clarify my doubts with my teachers but i still could not understand their explanation. I scored a F9 for almost all my Amath tests. I had never obtain a pass for my Amath.

In Good School, I could understand what the tutor is explaining. There were also many different tips introduced to me by Mr Zhang at the Kovan branch to assist me in studying Amath. He is able to make concepts that are hard to understand simpler. This helped me greatly as I am able to understand more about the different concepts in Amath. The centre has a very conducive environment due to the small size of the classroom which allows the teacher to focus more on every student. I was also able to clarify my doubts after tuition with my tutor via whatsapp and the replies are prompt and easy to understand.

For my O'level Amath, I scored a C5 and I passed Amath for the first time. I recommend Good School because I find it effective in helping me to improve my grades.

Math has always been a subject in which I struggled in, even since primary school. When learning the subject, I almost always never fully understood what the teacher was saying. Furthermore, the pace in school was always too fast for me to keep up, causing me to always be behind my classmates. This made me feel extremely unmotivated to continue studying Math and as a result, I ended up scoring a D7 for my end of year examinations in Sec 2. However, during my time in Good School, I found that I was able to study Math much better as we were taught how to approach math questions in a systematic way using step by step processes.

My tutor, Mr Zhang, was able to give clear and concise explanations that were easily understandable , making abstract and seemingly difficult concepts easy to follow. He is able to make learning in Good School Kovan fun and interesting, one such example is when he showed us a simple and catchy song to help us remember the trigonometric functions, as well as tell us funny stories from time to time. Other than just teaching us maths, he also teaches us life lessons, such as how hard work conquers all, something which I have learnt to apply in my daily life. One thing in particular which I like about the centre, is that the class size is small and makes learning much more conducive as compared to school. The tutor is also very approachable, which makes clarifying my doubts easy.

Overall, I had a 5 grade improvement in my 2 years at Good School Kovan and scored an A2 for Math in O levels. I would recommend Good School to others as the strategies and techniques taught are effective and helped me not only to improve in Math, but also to feel more confident in my ability to tackle math problems. The pace in school was always too fast for me as my peers were generally more advanced, so the teachers simply went through papers after papers without giving detailed explanations and reasons. At the end of Secondary 3, I scored a B3 for my end of year examination.

When I joined good school kovan, I was only a few weeks away from my O levels and was failing my math. Math has never been a strong subject for me and I found it hard to grasp onto secondary math concepts. Within a short period of time, I was able to jump from a F9 to a C6! It was quite shocking to me and it was the first time I passed math in a while and made such an improvement!

I'd like to thank Mr Zhang for his guidance and never ending patience whenever I failed to submit assignments on time and for being willing to solve my doubts and questions late at night! Thank you for teaching me all the shortcuts I wish I learned earlier when solving equations and for never giving up on me! :D

Before I joined Good School Kovan, I always failed math since primary school all the way up to secondary school. I kept making many careless mistakes no matter how hard I tried not to and always stay stuck on questions I don't know how to do. But since I joined good school late, all the different formats and tips on solving Secondary Math equations has been summarised by my tutor, Mr Zhang.

I had joined only a month before my O levels and we were doing practice papers. The practice papers consisted of questions from every topic, which challenged and prepared me for unexpected questions if they were to appear during the exam itself. Everything that I have learned withing the short span of time helped me tremendously and I ended up from a D7 for prelims, to C5 for Os! Not only did I pass, but I also jumped 2 grades as well!

Learning in school was always difficult due to the big class and unconducive environment. Explanations were confusing and complicated and it was difficult to get the teacher's attention to clarify my doubts. Methods that were taught in school were mostly time consuming and complicated, hence making passing examinations very difficult for me. At Good School Kovan, due to the smaller scale of the class, it was more conducive and easier to ask questions and get explanations that were straight to the point, easy to understand and effective.

My tutor has always made lessons engaging and fun, he would ask us questions regarding the topic and would always help us if we didn't understand. At the beginning of the lesson, Mr Zhang would go through the questions that we had trouble completing from the assignments given, making sure that all of us understood the process of solving the question and getting the answer. When teaching, he would make sure that the method to solve the question was the most efficient and fool-proof, ensuring that there would be enough time to do each question and that lesser careless mistakes would occur in examinations.

Outside of lessons, I was able to contact him via whatsapp to ask him questions from school work and others. In conclusion, Good School has made learning easy and has enabled me to apply my knowledge in examinations in a more effective fashion. The grade I got for PSLE for math was D7 and that was the last examination I had taken without the help of Good school, after that I was able to pass math easily. I would recommend Good School to others because it is very effective.

Before I joined Good School, I was an E8/F9 student. I was constantly struggling with Math and I felt that I am not able to understand the use behind formulas. I couldn’t keep up with the lessons taught in school and did not understand what was going on. Since then, I had avoided Math as I did not like them.

When I first joined Good School Kovan in Secondary 2, the tutor was able to share effective methods and important key points. When it comes to answering questions, Mr Zhang always took extra effort and patience to explain till we’re clear. Notes provided by Good School had plenty of tips to guide us when we’re studying at home too. In addition, he is also approachable and friendly whenever we need help. He never fails to make lessons interesting and engaging by telling us stories of mistakes to help us remember not to make the same mistakes.

I strongly recommend attending Good School’s Secondary Math lessons as my takeaway from these lessons are not just the improvement of grades, but the science in brainstorming and use of logical application in daily life.

The jump between Secondary 3 and Secondary 4 was drastic. It was difficult for me to understand my Teachers in school and their teaching methods. I was always slower in math and could not easily comprehend the questions they were asking. Additionally I did not understand why certain methods and techniques were used on specific questions. I felt lost and hopeless when I failed math in my final exam in Secondary 3.

When I joined the Secondary Math lessons in Good School, my tutor at the Tampines branch was very friendly and engaging. Mr Lee has tried different ways to help me understand the concepts and remember questions that would show up in my exams. He would also go at a pace that is suitable for my learning. He would crack jokes every once in awhile to make the lessons more memorable and lively and make up stories to help me understand the topic better. For example, to help me understand probability, he would use different scenarios of everyday life to make it more relatable.

At home, when I have trouble with math problems, Mr Lee would make time and help me solve the questions by call or text. After months of attending classes, I was able to jump from an E8 to a B3 by O'Levels. This was because the teachings and techniques were useful and I was given plenty of practice to improve. I would recommend Good School to my friends and juniors if they ever need help with their mathematics.

Before I attended Good School Kovan I had very low confidence in myself for math because I found it hard as I couldn’t really understand and i did not receive adequate attention from my school teacher because of the class size and I was scared to ask questions. I ended up getting 35 for my math in sec two eoy which was when my dad went to look for a tuition teacher that could hopefully improve my math. When my father went to Good School, he encountered Mr Zhang where he answered any enquiries that my father had regarding the math tuition.

Although at first Good School wasn’t the first choice, after the encounter with Mr Zhang he decided that Good School was the right place to go. During the first lesson, we did a mock paper which I found hard as it was an express paper when I couldn't even do the normal academic paper. After the lesson, I went to message Mr Zhang if I was put in the right class as I was doing an express paper so he told me that the class was mixed with students from different streams which made me surprised and encouraged me to do better. With Mr Zhang’s engaging and fun lessons, I managed to learn different ways to solve math problems and gain confidence in doing math.

After a year of hard work with Mr Zhang, I then got my first A for math during the mid year exams. The next year I got an A2 for the first time and the first thing I did was take a picture of the paper and send it to Mr Zhang. He then congratulated and encouraged me to do better, and keep up my good work.

Ever since then, I have been keeping up and improving my work, and I ended up getting an A1 for my N levels. I would really recommend Mr Zhang and Good School to other students who need help with their math as the tutors in the centre are nice and have engaging and fun lessons.

Before joining Good school Kovan, I never really understood the concepts and the formulas for math. I felt like math was really difficult and I can never pass the subject. I do not know how to solve the question and how to apply what I’ve learnt in school to the questions. For example, Indices is one of the topics that I struggled with because I have to force myself to memorize the rules in order to solve the question. I hate it when I have to force myself to memorize something that I do not even know what I’m memorizing and what the rules are about but I still managed to get a C6 when I was in secondary 1.

Mr Zhang’s teaching method is different from how my school teacher teach me. He will explain and demonstrate a question for us before giving us other questions to try ourselves. Math is a subject where we have to practice, practice and more practice so Mr Zhang will always give us homework after each lesson. I used to hate the homework that he gave because I felt really unmotivated to do it as the questions can be quite challenging at times but now come to think of it, I have to thank the questions because it is the practices that helped me to improve for mathematics. Sometimes when we are all very stressed and tired from the math practices, Mr Zhang will give us a short break by telling us stories about him and his family for us to relax for a while.

A few months before the final exams, Mr Zhang will revise all the topics with us starting from sec 1 all the way to sec 4, we will write down notes for every topic and he will give us lots of questions to practice on. We will ask him and tell him the questions that we got wrong and would need clarification on, and he would explain them to us. The centre’s environment is also very conducive for us to study as there are a study table just located outside the classrooms which made it quite convenient for us to clarify our doubts when needed. I remembered a time when I really needed Mr Zhang’s help with a question but it was already very late at night so I didn’t expect him to reply me through WhatsApp. I am really surprised when he did because I was panicking and I needed his help as soon as possible. I am really thankful for him for all his help and support. My hard work finally paid off when I received my o level results, I had a 2-grade improvement from C6 to B4.

I am very proud of myself but if I do not have Mr Zhang’s help, I do not think I can do it. I would definitely recommend good school to my friends and my juniors because it really help me a lot and I want Mr Zhang to help more teenagers that are struggling with mathematics like how I was when I first joined good school.

Before I joined, my teacher was teaching really quickly and I was unable to fully understand. My teacher also skipped steps and made it difficult to connect the dots to the solution for the questions. Many lessons in school were simply doing practices and even when the teacher went through the practice worksheets, they went through quite quickly.

In Good School's Secondary Math lessons however, Mr Zhang allowed us to voice out the questions we needed him to explain and he would explain in detail until we understood. Mr Zhang's teaching was very clear and his methods were easy to understand and apply. He taught us more than one method to solve a question. He also shared with us tips for exams and also life. I like that there is a study area in the centre and it's a very conducive environment to study. Class sizes are small and there was also lesser distractions.

In Sec 3, my math teacher placed a lot of emphasis on teaching A math and neglected teaching E Math so my E Math grades started to drop. Mr Zhang, my secondary math tutor at Good School Kovan, taught me the topics ahead of time so I was able to understand the topics better in school, and ample amount of questions in homework. The questions done in tution and at home was more than enough practice as Mr Zhang even gave topical revision worksheets after finishing every topic in Sec 4.

During lessons, Mr Zhang ensured that everyone understood what he was teaching and would slow down in parts we thought was more complex or at parts where people didn't understand, which was extremely helpful. Mr Zhang also made classes more fun by telling us stories and jokes as my class is in the morning and everyone was sleepy. This engaged us a lot better and allowed us to absorb information better. The study environment is very conducive and encouraging as Mr Zhang would always asnwer my questions in class and over Whatsapp. I used to get C5 for my E Math, but thanks to Mr Zhang's help, I was finally able to get an A2. Mr Zhang would defintely give you the results that you want as long as you are willing to work hard!
